A universal non-proprietary digital AM radio system with near-FM quality sound, available to markets worldwide.

Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is an over-the-air transmission system developed for the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz.

Digital Radio Mondiale targets markets worldwide. As a universal non-proprietary digital AM radio system, DRM holds the promise of revitalizing short-wave, medium-wave, and long-wave broadcasting.

The quality of DRM audio is a dramatic improvement over that of analog AM. Apart from providing clear, near-FM quality sound, the robustness of the DRM signal can be chosen to match different propagation conditions. In addition, the DRM system has the capacity to integrate data and text.

DRM applications are expected to include fixed and portable radios, car radios, and other mobile terminals such as PDAs and cellular phones.

The Digital Radio Mondiale patent licensing program conducted by Via Licensing is intended to provide streamlined access to a set of essential DRM patents from multiple parties under reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. The licensing program includes patents that are essential to both the audio portions and the modulation/demodulation portions of the DRM system.
