Submitting a Patent: WiMAX
WiMAX is the next-generation of wireless technology designed to enable pervasive, high-speed mobile Internet access to the widest array of devices including notebook PCs, handsets, smartphones, and consumer electronics such as gaming devices, cameras, camcorders, music players, and more. Based on the IEEE 802.16e standard, WiMAX enables the delivery of wireless broadband services and can accommodate fixed and mobile usage models.
This patent call is being issued for the purpose of identifying the owners of patents that are essential to the practice of the WiMAX technology. A patent is essential if it contains at least one independent claim that is necessarily infringed by the practice of the IEEE 802.16e standard. Any entity with a patent or patent application that is found to be essential by an independent patent evaluator is invited to join a group of essential patent holders that would convene to discuss the commercial terms of a joint patent license to be offered under reasonable and nondiscriminatory terms.
Any entity that believes it has patents or pending patent applications that are essential to the normative portions of the IEEE 802.16e standard is invited to contact Via Licensing to receive information about how to submit patents for essentiality review by the independent patent evaluator.
Parties interested in discussing the opportunity to participate in a WiMAX licensing program can contact Via at
